Terseer Adamu

Terseer Adamu is a photojournalist who began his journalistic career in 2007. He graduated from the International Institute of Journalism Abuja, where he bagged Diploma in Journalism (OND), and Higher Diploma. He also has a Postgraduate in Public Relations and Advertising (PGDAP) University of Maiduguri.

Adamu is an active journalist and passionate about his endeavours. He served twice as the national secretary of Nigeria Student journalist forum (NSJF), the umbrella body of student journalist in Nigeria. He was, for two years, the an editor at “Insight Magazine”. 

Some stakeholders in aviation industry have appealed to the Federal Government to speed up interventions to revamp the sector which, they say, is hardest hit by the COVID -19 pandemic.

They made the call in interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

Obudu Mountain Resort Repairs Cable Car

In a bid to revive the Obudu Ranch Resort, the Government of Cross River has carried out repairs and maintenance of the cable-car at the resort. Mr Bobby Ekpeyong, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Obudu Ranch Resort, during the test-run on Monday at the ranch in Obudu, said Gov. Ben Ayade was fully committed to bringing the resort back to life. Ekpenyong added that the governor’s commitment was to ensure the resort regained its pride of place in the tourism and hospitality sector of the country.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has announced plans to enlist more of Nigeria's cultural sites as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Minister stated this during his visit to the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove in Osun State, which is one of the country's two World Heritage Sites, on Tuesday. He said Nigeria’s quest to have more sites designated as World Heritage Sites is due to the abundance of sites that qualify for such listing in the country. 

International tourist arrivals grew 4% from January to June 2019, compared to the same period last year, according to the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer published ahead of the 23rd World Tourism Organization General Assembly. Growth was led by the Middle East (+8%) and Asia and the Pacific (+6%). International arrivals in Europe grew 4%, while Africa (+3%) and the Americas (+2%) enjoyed more moderate growth.

As adherents of Osun Osogbo deity converged on the groove at Osogbo for the grand finale of this year’s festival, Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola on Friday charged indigenes of the state and those in the diaspora to collaborate with his administration in promoting the annual festival.

The Governor made these known while addressing a mammoth crowd of adherents, traditionalists, local and international tourists who thronged Osun Osogbo groove for the festival.

The chairman of an indigenous telecom company, Globacom, Mr. Mike Adenuga Jr, has said that Nigeria tourism industry will continue to suffer a decline if the government fails to adequately address the issue of insecurity in the country.

Adenuga Jr., who made this known in his goodwill message to the 2019 Ojude Oba Festival, held in Ijebu Ode, read on his behalf by Folu Aderibigbe, equally urged government at the federal, state and local government levels to work harmoniously and design strategies to nip security challenges in the bud to harness the huge tourism potentials available in the country.

Recently, the Ugandan President Mr. Kaguta Museveni accused the tourism ministry of failing to attract more tourist in the country. In 2017, about 1.3 tourists visited Uganda bringing in 1.4 billion dollars in revenue. The Ugandan President was quoted as saying:

"A country like Spain that has nothing to show be visited by 50 million people and Uganda just 2 million people and you are here congratulating yourself? Uganda Tourism Board is mediocre and I don't like that type of mediocrity. Uganda has great potential in tourism...other countries have nothing to show but they manage to attract more tourists." 

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said his Ministry will soon produce a compendium of the festivals across the country as art of efforts to boost tourism and showcase the country's diverse cultures.
 
The Minister disclosed this in Istanbul, Turkey, on Monday while speaking at the ongoing 3rd UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture, jointly organized by the two UN agencies.
 
He said with more than 365 festivals across Nigeria, the country can organize one festival per day all year round, thus boosting domestic and international tourism.

The African Director, Moroccan National Tourism Office, Jalal Imani, has called for collaboration between his country and Nigeria to promote tourism in Africa.

He made the call in Marrakech during a familiarisation trip organised by his agency. 

According to Imani, such collaboration, besides its economic benefits, will promote regional peace and unity, transfer of cultural heritage and further boost bilateral relations between the two countries. 

A presidential aspirant in the 2019 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed his plans to boost the tourism and culture sectors in Nigeria.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in his recently released policy document, the former Vice President proposed to enlist the help of private sector in transforming the sectors into major earners for the country. The document noted the challenges of the culture and tourism sectors in Nigeria which include inadequate promotion of local culture,
