Tourism Grew by 4% in 2021 - UNWTO

Global tourism experienced a 4% upturn in 2021, compared to 2020 (415 million versus 400 million). However, international tourist arrivals (overnight visitors) were still 72% below the pre-pandemic year of 2019, according to preliminary estimates by UNWTO. This follows on from 2020, the worst year on record for tourism, when international arrivals decreased by 73%.

The National President, Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria (FTAN), Mr Nkereuwem Onung has assured the federation's commitment and focus to continue to engage and re-engage the government in all level to give tourism a practical voice in Nigeria.

Onung who disclosed this during his New Year message to Nigerians said the organised private sector shall continue to re-device newer ways to see that tourism collaborations among all the major stakeholders are refocused toward making the industry more vibrant than ever.
