The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has announced that the new national carrier is expected to commence operation by the first quarter of 2022. Sirika disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. He explained that the new national carrier is long overdue and the private sector-run airline will be in operation by early 2022, with possibly cheaper rates.

Buhari Rejects NIHOTOUR Bill and Others

President Muhammadu Buhari, has rejected 13 bills passed by the 8th Nigeria National Assembly, including the National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Establishment Bill, popularly called the NIHOTOUR Bill. However, the President assented to 9 other Bills. 

Mr. Ita Enang, the President's Liaison Officer to the Senate, told National Assembly Correspondents yesterday, that more bills passed by the Eighth Assembly are still being expected by the President and promised to take action as soon as he was in possession of them.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform all Nigerian travellers that the Ethiopian Customs and Revenue Authority (ECRA) has recently stepped up seizure of foreign currencies and valuables in excess of $3 000 (three thousand dollars) from passengers transiting Ethiopia without prior declaration of such valuables.

The Nigerian government has banned the Boeing 737 Max aircraft from flying in the country.

The decision is coming days after a Boeing 737 Max-8 plane operated by Ethiopian Airlines, crashed in Addis Ababa, on its way to Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, on Sunday.

President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration will speed up the improvement of aviation infrastructure in the country to enhance the country’s economic development. The president made this known when he received the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Muyiwa Aliu, at the State House, Abuja on Monday. Mr. Buhari declared his total support and commitment to work with regulatory agencies in the aviation sector to make air travel safer throughout the country.
