Kano Emirate (State) is a state located in Northern Nigeria. Created on May 27, 1967 from part of the Northern Region, Kano state borders Katsina State to the north-west, Jigawa State to the north-east, Bauchi State to the south-east and Kaduna State to the south-west. The capital of Kano State is Kano. The state originally included Jigawa State which was made a separate state in 1991. Kano is the heartbeat of Northern Nigeria.

The Emir’s Palace: The Kano traditional system is very powerful, presently led by his eminence, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, one time the Governor of Central Bank Nigeria. It was built by Emir Muhammadu Rumfa in the 13th century. The Palace is in the Heart of Kano.
The City Walls: This is one of the oldest tourist attractions in Kano. It is a must visit. It has a moderate height of 18 meters. It is over 700 years ago the wall was erected. Although most of the wall’s part has depleted, you will still find remnants.
Gidan Makama Museum: The Gidan Makama Museum was formerly Emir’s Palace before it was turned into a museum. It will give you an exhilarating ride through Kano’s history from the pre-colonial era till date. There are different sections that showcase arts and crafts. It was built in the 15th century.
The Durbar Festival: With the end of Ramadan around the corner, you have the opportunity to experience the Durbar festival. This festival features beautifully adorned horses and the indigenes will also pay homage to the Emir.
