About One Million Tourists Witness Osun Oshogbo Festival - Governor Oyetola

As adherents of Osun Osogbo deity converged on the groove at Osogbo for the grand finale of this year’s festival, Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola on Friday charged indigenes of the state and those in the diaspora to collaborate with his administration in promoting the annual festival.

Insecurity Hampering Tourism in Nigeria - Adenuga Jr.

The chairman of an indigenous telecom company, Globacom, Mr. Mike Adenuga Jr, has said that Nigeria tourism industry will continue to suffer a decline if the government fails to adequately address the issue of insecurity in the country.

Adenuga Jr., who made this known in his goodwill message to the 2019 Ojude Oba Festival, held in Ijebu Ode, read on his behalf by Folu Aderibigbe, equally urged government at the federal, state and local government levels to work harmoniously and design strategies to nip security challenges in the bud to harness the huge tourism potentials available in the country.

US Congress Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, Marks Slavery Anniversary in Ghana

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is in Ghana with a U.S. congressional delegation for high-level talks and a commemoration of the 400-year-old slave trade from Africa to the New World.

The visitors were to be received Monday evening by Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo in Accra. They include the House Majority Whip James Clyburn, Congressional Black Caucus chairwoman Karen Bass and House representatives Barbara Lee and John Lewis, the Associated Press reported.

Buhari Rejects NIHOTOUR Bill and Others

President Muhammadu Buhari, has rejected 13 bills passed by the 8th Nigeria National Assembly, including the National Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Establishment Bill, popularly called the NIHOTOUR Bill. However, the President assented to 9 other Bills. 

Mr. Ita Enang, the President's Liaison Officer to the Senate, told National Assembly Correspondents yesterday, that more bills passed by the Eighth Assembly are still being expected by the President and promised to take action as soon as he was in possession of them.

Nigeria's NOK Museum Upgrade to Boost Culture and Heritage Tourism

The Nigerian government is to upgrade and explore new ways to make the Museum in NOK Community in Kaduna State, North-Western Nigeria a tourist hub as a way of diversifying the country’s economy. Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu disclosed this while being honoured with the title of Wey Sim Nok (The son that loves the Nok) by the district head of Nok, his royal highness, Mr. Banu Adamu in Kaduna State.

Africa: Uganda Brands as a Sex Tourism Destination

Recently, the Ugandan President Mr. Kaguta Museveni accused the tourism ministry of failing to attract more tourist in the country. In 2017, about 1.3 tourists visited Uganda bringing in 1.4 billion dollars in revenue. The Ugandan President was quoted as saying:

"A country like Spain that has nothing to show be visited by 50 million people and Uganda just 2 million people and you are here congratulating yourself? Uganda Tourism Board is mediocre and I don't like that type of mediocrity. Uganda has great potential in tourism...other countries have nothing to show but they manage to attract more tourists."

Lagos State Roll Out 2019 Calendar of Art Events

The Lagos State Government has released the 2019 calendar of arts, culture and entertainment events, an annual listing meant to guide local and foreign tourists as well as journalists and the general public into the rich cultural content on offer in the state. The Calendar which is on the state website and in print form contains more than 80 events that are either state sponsored or simply endorsed and supported by the Lagos State Government.
