The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has announced that the new national carrier is expected to commence operation by the first quarter of 2022. Sirika disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting. He explained that the new national carrier is long overdue and the private sector-run airline will be in operation by early 2022, with possibly cheaper rates.

The Federal Government has extended the closure of airports across the country by another two weeks beginning from April 23, 2020. Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, announced this via a tweet on his verified Twitter handle on Monday, April 20, 2020. The Aviation Minister said the extension was due to the recent lockdown order of the President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Federal Government will demolish substantial part of the 40-year-old Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) terminal and replace it with the new one built by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in December. This is coming as aviation labour leaders have rejected the planned concession of four major airports in the country.
